Creating and Managing Subcategories

By Administrator · Jul 28, 2026 · 8 views

Subcategories sit one level below categories and are where articles actually live — every article belongs to exactly one subcategory. Use them to break a broad category into specific topics (for example, an "AcityPlus Mobile App" category might have subcategories like "Installation" and "Troubleshooting").

Creating a subcategory

  1. In the sidebar, click Subcategories under Content.
  2. Click New Subcategory.
  3. Choose the Category it belongs to.
  4. Enter a Name (required) and an optional Description.
  5. Click Save Subcategory.

On the public site, subcategories are listed alphabetically by name under their category — so if the reading order matters to you, choosing names that already sort the way you want is the only way to control that.

Hiding a subcategory from the public site

Tick Hide from public site (internal use only) to keep just this one subcategory, and every article inside it, off the public site — the rest of the parent category stays visible as normal. This is the setting to reach for when only part of a category is meant to be internal-only; see "Creating and Managing Categories" if you instead want to hide an entire category at once.

Moving a subcategory

You can move a subcategory to a different category later by editing it and changing the Category field — its articles move with it.

Important: just like categories, deleting a subcategory permanently deletes every article inside it. Double-check what's inside before deleting — open the Articles page and filter by that subcategory first if you're not sure.
